State budget ensures EMS providers are paid for serving Michigan’s state prisons

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Association of Ambulance Services (MAAS) today thanked Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Legislature for including funding in the Fiscal Year 2027 state budget to ensure ambulance providers are compensated for emergency services provided at Michigan's correctional facilities.

"Michigan EMS providers respond to every emergency, regardless of where it occurs, and that includes at the state's correctional facilities," said Angela Madden, executive director of MAAS. "We greatly appreciate Michigan leaders for including funding in the state budget to compensate agencies for providing lifesaving services at Michigan’s prisons. This funding allows ambulance providers to focus their resources on maintaining highly trained personnel, reliable equipment, and rapid response capabilities. We appreciate the Governor and lawmakers for working together to address this issue and strengthen the EMS system for the benefit of all Michiganders."
